Irene D. (Kalish) Marinos

Irene D. (Kalish) Marinos, age 93, formerly of Bloomsburg and Benton passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Kathryn “Kay” Marinos, in Lewisburg on Tuesday morning, August 30, 2022.

Born in Pringle, Luzerne County on January 7, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Stanislaus and Marianna (Tomaszewski) Kalish. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Hedwig High School in Kingston.

Irene resided in Bloomsburg for many years and in Benton prior. She was a lifelong Roman Catholic.  Earlier in her life she worked as a bookkeeper at the Boston Store, then in the Bloomsburg family businesses – The Waffle Grill, Bloom Bowl, Pete’s Lunch.

Irene enjoyed playing bingo and did so at various churches and fire companies with her friends. She especially looked forward to the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.  She loved dancing, music,opera, theatre, travel to many parts of the world, crossword puzzles, her red Cabrio convertible, the NY Yankees and life in general.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Peter S. Marinos October 1965 and second husband Leo E. Bernes July 1984.

Irene is survived by five children: Kathryn M. “Kay” Marinos, Lewisburg; Speros P. Marinos; Dimitrius S. Marinos, and his wife Sandra, Benton; Eloise Marinos, Hartford, CT; Marlene R., and her husband Charles R. Reiff, Lake Hopatcong, NJ; seven grandchildren: Alicia Marinos, Monica Thomas, Lauren Deakins, DimitriusMarinos, Brian Reiff, Eric Reiff, Sarah Reiff; three great-grandchildren: Courtney, Kiersten and Paul; and a number of nieces and nephews including Rosalie Eckert, PatZaborsky, Joan and Maureen Yablonski.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 am in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Fr. Richard J. Mowery officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a. m.
