Isabelle R. Scaran, age 90, 30 Tower View Circle, Danville, died at 9:15 p. m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for three days. She was seriously ill for the past month.
Born in Atlas, Northumberland County, on September 4, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Grochowski) Latorre. She resided in Danville since 1962 and at the Meadows since 1994. Her early life was spent in Atlas and Elysburg.
Isabelle was a 1941 graduate of Mt. Carmel Township High School and received her B. S. degree in psychology from Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia in 1945. She later earned her Master's degree in social work from Bryn Mawr College in 1958.
She was employed by Danville State Hospital in the Social Services Department and was Assistant Superintendent of Rehabilitation Services when she retired in 1985 after 40 years of service. From 1985 until her death, she volunteered as a social worker at Maria Joseph Continuing Care Community.
Isabelle was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Danville, and a former member of the Soroptomist Club of Montour County and the Columbia Montour Mental Health Association. She was also a former member of the board of the Children and Youth of Montour County and of the board of the Mental Health Counseling Services of Columbia-Montour County.
On October 26, 2003 she received a Life Achievement Award for Elder Care, which was bestowed upon her by the Sisters of St. Cyril & Methodius.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob E. Scaran on November 22, 1996; by three sisters: Rosalie Ross, Martina Alexander, and Helen Tinelli; and a brother, Joseph Latorre

Isabelle is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. Gingher, Fernandina Beach, Florida; two sisters: Peggy, wife of Robert Tabacaini, Strong and Ramona, wife of Arthur Diaz, Palantine, Ill.; a brother, Ramon Latorre, and his wife Eleanor, Elysburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 1 p. m. in the Chapel of Maria Joseph Manor, 875 Montour Boulevard, Danville, by Rev. Gerard Heintzelman, Interment will be made in All, Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will take place at Maria Joseph from 11-1 p. m.
