Jack S. Kressler, age 90, 46 Morrison Road, Bloomsburg, died  peacefully at his home at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016.

Born in Bloomsburg on December 31, 1925, he was a son of the late Ray S. and Carrie (Hock) Kressler. He resided in the Bloomsburg area his entire life.

Jack was a mechanic his entire life and in 1958 he built what is now Kressler’s Service Station, Millville Road, Bloomsburg.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre on the LST 835 and the YMS 393 (a minesweeper) as a Motor Machinists Mate 2nd Class. Jack received the World War II Victory medal; the Philippine Liberation medal with 2 stars; the American Campaign medal and the Asiatic Pacific medal with 2 stars.

Jack was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg; Ft. McClure Post 804, VFW, Bloomsburg; Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436;  a life member of Washington Lodge 265, F&AM and  Caldwell Consistory, both of Bloomsburg; the former Liberty Fire Co.; and the Bloomsburg Fireman’s Relief Association. He also served on the Board of Rosemont Cemetery Co., Bloomsburg.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years,  the former Ruth Mae Oman, on December 23, 2015; three brothers: Frank Kressler, Fred Kressler and Clinton A. Kressler and five sisters: Helen Watts, Claire Megargell, Vera L. Stiner, June Keefer and Ruth Fritz.

Surviving are five children: Fred W. Kressler, and his wife Iva, Bloomsburg; Cheryl V. “Vickie”, wife of Jeff Gaskill, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; Kathleen J., wife of Charles Hunsinger, Unityville; Patricia G., wife of Robert Brewster, Orangeville; Flint W. Kressler, and his wife Sharon, Millville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ray S. Kressler, Jr., Bloomsburg.

Funeral services will be held on  Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Interment will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, with full military honors by the combined VFW group. Viewing will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family will provide flowers. The family has requested that donations, in lieu of flowers,  be sent to the Columbia Montour Vocational, Technical School, 5050 Sweppenheiser Drive, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 to be used for an award for future mechanics. Checks should be sent to the attention of Dr. Mamett and marked for the Jack S. Kressler Mechanic Memorial Award.
