James R. Long, age 78, 696 E. Hillcrest Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after struggling with cancer for six months.
Born in Bloomsburg on April 14, 1936, he was a son of the late Freas (Pete) and Margaret (Stackhouse) Long. A 1954 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, he resided in Bloomsburg his entire life. He was a peacetime veteran of service with the US Army, serving from 1959 to 1961.
Jim was employed as a custom door mechanic with Kawneer in Bloomsburg for over 35 years.
He was a member of the Columbia Valley Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #623; the Winona Fire Co. and the Bloomsburg Firemanâs Relief Association.
Jim loved hunting, fishing, and his dogs.
Surviving is his wife, the former Emily M. Bogart, with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage on June 11, 2014; two children: Brian S. Long, at home; Valerie, wife of Daniel Florez, Big Rock, Ten.; two step-sons: Mark Babb, Hawthorne, Fla. and David Babb, wife Jana, Bloomsburg; a granddaughter, a grandson, two great grandsons and two siblings: Richard Long, wife Lydia, Berwick and Linda, wife of Stanley R. Keszkowski, Bloomsburg.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no services.
