James M. “Jim” Nast (The Big Guy), age 83, of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and formerly Bloomsburg, passed away on Saturday June 29, 2024 in Nags Head, North Carolina.
Born on December 6, 1940 in Bloomsburg, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Miller) Nast. Jim was a 1958 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a 1962 graduate of Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey as a Director of Human Resources for 26 years.
Jim was a member of the Duck United Methodist Church.
He was an avid Giants fan and golfer. Jim was also a member of the Masons, Elks, Shriners, and Duck Woods Country Club. He was a fixture at the beach on Pintail Drive in Carolina Dunes
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William “Bill” Nast.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Lou Anne (Hidlay) Nast; daughter, Amy (John) Coughlin, of Charlotte, North Carolina; son, Craig Nast, of Rutherford, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Carley (Robert) Deluca, of Charlotte, North Carolina, John Coughlin, of Boston, Massachusetts, and Ryan Coughlin, of Charlotte, North Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Beau, Derek, and Nicholas Deluca; and granddog, Eli.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday July 6, 2024 at 2 p.m. in Hidlay Cemetery, North Centre Township, Columbia County, with Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders, of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
