JAMES I. SHIMP
James I. Shimp, age 79, 95 Old Furnace Road, Danville, died at his home on Friday, April 22, 2011.
He was born on June 6, 1931 in Lewistown, a son of the late Henry and Dorothy V. (Koons) Shimp. He resided in the Danville area for the past 40 years and formerly lived in Williamsport. He was a 1949 graduate of Williamsport High School and also attended the former Williamsport Area Community College.
Jim was last employed at the former TRW, Corp. plant in Danville, for 15 years, retiring in 1996. Earlier he was an over the road truck driver for a number of companies.
He was a member of St. Paul's Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Danville; the Danville Moose Lodge; American Legion Post 945; and the Williamsport Lodge 106, F & AM.
Jim served with the US Air Force during the Korean War.
Surviving are a son, James H. Shimp, and his companion Kim Henrie, Danville; a daughter, Valerie, wife of Christopher W. Hamilton, Ashburn, Va.; three grandchildren: Sirena, Merlinda and Lorelei Hamilton; a step-daughter, Lorine Karn, Bloomsburg; an adopted son, Matthew R. Shimp, Fla.; a sister, Jean, wife of Sandy McCullough, N.J.; and a brother, Henry David Shimp, Mill Hall.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Shimp and two sisters: Evaline Weaver and Miriam Bubb.
Funeral services will be held on Wed. at 11 a. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with his pastor, Rev. Gregory L. Molter officiating. Interment in Green Lawn Memorial Park, near Montgomery, with military honors by the combined Montour County Veterans group.
