James E. Smith, Jr., age 84, 231 Vine Street, Danville, died at 10:55 p. m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Vintage Knolls, Danville, where he resided for 1 1/2 years.

Born in Catawissa Township, Columbia County on May 16, 1929, he was a son of James E. and Marie A. (Knorr) Smith. He was a 1947 graduate of the former Scott Township High School and resided in Danville since 1965.

Jim was employed at the former Textron Industries plant in Danville for many years as a supervisor, retiring about 1989.

He served with the US Air Force during the Korean War.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Mary C. Mason, who is currently a guest at Grandview Health Homes, Danville; a son, James E. Cox, and his wife Paula, Rochester, New York and their children: Whitney and Logan. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Taylor Cox.

Friends are invited to attend graveside funeral services on Friday at 2 p. m. in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Bloom Road, Danville, with the Rev. C. Rayvon Hilliard, retired United Methodist Minister officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville.
