James Francis Street
James Francis Street, age 73, of 250 Honeytown Road, Stillwater, passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 after being in ill health since March, 2010.
Born in Coatesville on Feb. 12, 1942, he was the 4th child of the late William C. and Kathleen Marie (Forien) Street.
Educated in Coatesville, he graduated from West Chester State College with a B.S. degree and received his M.A. degree from Temple University, Philadelphia.
Jim taught history in Coatesville and was an assistant principal there and also in Quarryville. He was a principal in Montrose for ten years, before becoming superintendent of the Benton Area Schools in 1990 and left there to become superintendent of the South Williamsport Area School District from 1993 to 1998, when he retired. After retirement he was called to be the acting superintendent at Benton. After that he began working as a consultant for Next Century, Inc., as CEO of the SusQ-Cyber School. He stopped working in July 2011 when the effects of lung disease became too severe.
In the course of his career he had many roles; he was an adjunct professor at Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre; an officer in local teacher organizations; Vice-President of the PA Federation of Teachers; a Rotarian; President of the Quarryville Rotary Club; and a Boy Scout leader where he served as a neighborhood commissioner and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Jim was instrumental in establishing a Lancaster County Library satellite in Quarryville. An avid gardener and hunter, he liked to spend his time outside, traveling, ocean fishing, and being with family and friends. Jim was a lifelong student of history. As an educator and member of the community, he enjoyed supporting and attending musical concerts and sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lois M. Wurst, with whom he would have observed his 42nd wedding anniversary on December 23rd and five children: Erica L., wife of Sean Hutcherson, of Coos Bay, Ore. and their children: Ella and Sophia; Jennifer M., wife of Dan Borelli, of San Jose, Calif.; James W. Street, and his wife Christina, and their children, Daniel, Anastasia, David and Rachel,of Manheim; Jonathan W. Street, and his wife Leah, of State College; and Bridgette K. Street, of Allentown. He was the last of his family and is also survived by a niece and a nephew.
Jim was preceded in death by two sisters: Marie Britton and Mary Fulton and a brother, William Street.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015, from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
