James L. âBuckyâ Walters, Sr., age 80, 909 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died at 1:15 p. m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at the Bloomsburg Health care Center where he was a patient since April.
Born in Bloomsburg on Aug. 17, 1931, he was a son of the late George and Dorothy (Shultz) Walters. He spent his lifetime in the Bloomsburg area and was a 1949 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Bucky was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., for 15 years and last at the former Haddon Craftsman, Inc., plant in Bloomsburg, for 20 years, retiring in Sept., 1993.
He was a life member of the former Rescue Fire Co. and the Bloomsburg Firemanâs Relief Association; and also of the Espy Fire Co. and itâs relief Association. He coached Bloomsburg Little League Baseball for over 20 years and was a volunteer with the Bloomsburg Ambulance Assn. for over 25 years.
Bucky served with the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion, where he was a past commander and also belonged to Ft. McClure Post 804, VFW, Bloomsburg.
He and his wife, the former Verda M. Welliver, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on Aug. 10, 2011. Also surviving are two sons: James L. Walters, Jr., and his wife Susan, Cranberry Township and George John Walters, and his fianceâ, Elizabeth âBethâ Brennan, Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Chelsea, Ian, Jeffrey and Tim Walters; a brother, Richard D. Walters, and his wife Edith, Deer park, Long Island, NY; and a sister, Mary Louise Durso, North Hornell, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held on Wed. at 1 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Rev. R. Christian Dunlap, chaplain of Columbia Montour Home Hospice officiating.. Private interment will be in Creveling Cemetery, Almedia. There will be no viewing.
