Jane V. Morris, age 96, formerly of Fernville and Danville died at 10:04 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where she resided since October, 2008.
Born in Sunbury on February 1, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Elsie (Simpson) Smith. She was a 1937 graduate of Sunbury High School.
Jane resided in Danville from August, 1955 until May 2001, when she moved to Fernville (Bloomsburg).
She was employed as a secretary by the former Follmer Trucking Co. at their Danville location from 1938 until 1950 when she transferred to their Baltimore office, retiring in 1955.
Jane was a longtime member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Grovania. She was an active member of the former Danville Chapter 186, Order of Eastern Star, where she served as the Worthy Matron and also was the Chapter secretary for 33 years. She also was a District Deputy Matron. She was currently a member of the Bloomsburg Chapter 279, Order of Eastern Star.
Jane was a longtime member of the former Rugged Cross Shrine 39, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bloomsburg, where she served as treasurer. At the time of her death, she was a life member of the White Shrine International.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Morris on February 25, 1998.
The last of her family, she is survived by her friends and caregivers, William L. and Mary Derr, Bloomsburg and a God son, Robert Derr, Danville, Va.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with her pastor, Rev. Melody Sell officiating. Entombment in the Praying Hands Garden Mausoleum at Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury. Friends may call on Thursday from 1-2 p.m. Bloomsburg Chapter 279 O.E.S. will conduct memorial services at 1:30 p.m.
