Janet E. Smith, age 79, formerly of First St., Bloomsburg, died at 9:12 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Dunmore Health Care Center, Dunmore, where she had been a patient for six weeks. She had been seriously ill for more than three years.

Born in Shickshinny on August 10, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Edward L. and Fannie (Kinney) Moore. She resided on First Street in Bloomsburg for 50 years and spent her last three years in Moosic.

Janet worked for 25 years as a bookkeeper at Sears and Roebuck, Bloomsburg, retiring in 1995.

A 1948 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, Janet enjoyed her involvement in the High School Band Boosters.

She was a veteran of the Women's Army Corps, and served during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving is her husband, Clay D. Smith, with whom she would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on August 10, 2010; four daughters: Nina E., wife of Frederick Keefer, Forty Fort; Nanci J., wife of Donald Flynn, Dunmore; Jennifer Smith, Moosic and Stephanie, wife of Timothy Singley, Cornelius, North Carolina; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Moore, Shickshinny and a sister, Shirley Joan, wife of Jim Baker, Va.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clay A. Smith on September 28, 1997 and by a brother, Leonard Moore in 1981.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Rev. Stephen L. Cureton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Monday.

The Family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern PA at the Kirby Health Care Center, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
