JANIE (DAVIS) COTNER
Janie (Davis) Cotner, age 93, One Rushtown Place, Danville, died at her home at 11:10 p. m. Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Born January 31, 1917 in Danville, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Blanche (Feisler) Davis. She was a 1935 graduate of Danville High School.
A member of the Grove Presbyterian Church, Danville, she was a member of the choir for many years and also was a former Sunday School teacher. She previously was a member of the former Rush Presbyterian Church until it closed.
Janie assisted her husband in the operation of the Cotner farms. She enjoyed bowling and time spent with her family. She served on the Rush Township election board for over 50 years and also belonged to the Danville Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Above all, Janie was the steadfast foundation of her family. She was a leader, a constant supporter, a teacher and an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved and was deeply loved by her extensive family.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Donald Gulick Cotner on Dec. 17, 2006; by a daughter, Elizabeth M. "Betty" Pursel on Sept. 8, 2007; by five brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one son, five daughters, 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren: Jane, wife of Loren "Tyke" Bly, Jamestown, N.Y. and their children: Mike, Ken and Elizabeth; Louise, wife of David Bush, Washingtonville, and their children: Andy, Jeff and Matt; Donald G. Cotner, and his wife, Mona, Danville, and their children: Bryan, Shannon and Russ; Jill, wife of David Gibas, Aberdeen, Md., and their children: Erin, Jason and Katelyn; Amy, wife of Mark Moser, Danville, and their children: Adam, Kyle and Madeline; Jody, wife of Thomas Black, and their children: Kevin and Emily; a son-in-law, Charles B. "Cardy" Pursel, Bloomsburg, and his children: Leslie, Tom and Brad. Also surviving is a sister, Doris, wife of Eugene Shipe, Danville.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in Grove Presbyterian Church, 330 Bloom Street, Danville, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Robert J. Andrews officiating. Interment in Rush Presbyterian Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p. m. at the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville or at the Church on Friday after 9:30 a. m.
