Jay Howard Belles
Jay Howard Belles, age 77, 205 Belles Road, Orangeville, died at his home under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice, at 5:45 p. m. Saturday, September 20, 2014. He was in failing health since June, having been diagnosed with a rare virus, J.C., which attacks the immune system.
Born on June 5, 1937 in Bloomsburg, he was the son of the late Jay Hutchison and Emma (Rice) Belles. His early life was spent in Orangeville and he resided in Fishingcreek Township for the past 48 years. He attended the Orangeville Schools before going on to graduate from the former Scott Township High School in 1955.
Howard was last employed by the Bloomsburg Carpet Co., retiring in 1999. Earlier he was employed by the former Orangeville Manufacturing Co., Alumax, Corp., Bloomsburg; and the former Champion Valley Farms, Lime Ridge.
He served with the US Air Force from 1955 to 1959 as an airplane mechanic.
Howard was a member of the Orangeville Sportsman's Club; the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion; and Rails to Trails. He enjoyed bicycling, traveling, woodworking and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, the former Leona Bly, with whom he would have observed his 57th wedding anniversary on October 4, 2014; three children: Jay M. Belles, and his wife Karen, St. Luis Obisco, Fla.; Kim J. Belles, Orangeville; Tracy O. Belles, at home; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers: C. Horace Belles, Raymond M. Belles and Lester R. Belles and a sister, Anna Margaret Robbins.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
