Jean C. Leiby, age 89, 9 Penn Brook Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 6:30 p. m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at Emiritus Assisted Living in Scott Township where she was a guest since May, 2010.. She was in failing health for two years.
Born in Bloomsburg on Jan. 8, 1923, she was a daughter of the late David M. and Lulu V. (Krum) Thomas. She spent her entire lifetime in the Bloomsburg area, graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1941.
Jean was employed for over 20 years by the former S & H Green Stamp Store, Bloomsburg, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg for over 50 years.
Jean loved to play card games, especially pinochle, and doing word find puzzles. She was also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Phillies and Penn State Football.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eli J. Leiby on Feb. 22, 1997.
Surviving are two daughters: Patricia A., wife of Scott Rogers, Troy and Carol J., wife of Glen H. Coombe, with whom she last resided; four grandchildren: Gretchen Rogers, wife of Matthew Geer, Zachary Rogers, Jeffrey Coombe, Jason Coombe, and his wife Amy; three great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Geer, Evan Geer and Taylor Coombe; and a sister, Rhona Jacoby, Berwick. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sat. at 3 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Rev. Garry Zuber, pastor of First Baptist Church, Troy, officiating. Interment will at the convenience of the family in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p. m.
Flowers will be provided by the family. Memorials may be sent to the Bloomsburg Chapter, American Red Cross, for local flood relief, 119 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg or to the Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
