Jean  R.  Petro

Jean R. Petro, age 93,  formerly of 330 W. Third St., Bloomsburg, died at 5:34 p. m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital where she was a patient for two days.

Born in Northumberland on October 12, 1922, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Josephine (dePlesheau) Wilson.  She resided in Bloomsburg since 2007 and previously lived in Catawissa from 1991 to 2007; the US Virgin Islands for nine years and Lancaster, prior to that.

Jean was a 1940 graduate of William Penn High School, York and later attended and graduated from York College with a degree in elementary education. She attended night classes  and completed her college education in seven years.

As a military wife, she accompanied her husband, a career US Army member, on his deployments in the United States and abroad. While living in these places, she was active in church work, volunteered at local libraries and hospitals.

Jean was a cat lover, naming her male cats "George"; she also loved music and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Andrew P. "Pat" Petro, Jr., on December 26, 2007; by a son, Stephen Petro; a granddaughter;  three brothers and a sister. 

Surviving are four children: Patrick Petro, and his wife Sandra, York; Christopher Petro, Anchorage, Alaska; Rosemary Petro, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; Jeannee Rose, Redondo Beach, Calif.; a granddaughter; several great-grandchildren and a niece, Ginger Newcomb, Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the last of her immediate family.

At Jean's request, there will not be any funeral services or viewing.
