Jerry  L.  Derr,  Sr.

Jerry L. Derr, Sr., age 64, 526 River Hill Road, Catawissa, died at 1:55 p. m. Thursday, October 4, 2012 at his home  after being seriously ill since March.

Born in Bloomsburg on August 12, 1948, he was a son of the late Jesse, Jr. and Sara  (Gray) Derr.  He resided in Bloomsburg until moving to his present home in May, 1972.

Jerry was  employed  at Bloomsburg University for five years, retiring in 1990 due to ill health.

He was a member of the Catawissa VFW Post; the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion; Washington Fire Co., Danville; and the 10 Gun Hunting Club.

Jerry was an avid hunter when his health permitted.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ralph Derr and Paul Derr.

Surviving are his wife, the former Theresa A. Brady, with whom he celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary on April 22, 2012; two daughters: Kelly A., wife of Eric C. Erb, Danville and Karen M., wife of Kevin Murdock, Bloomsburg; a son, Jerry L. Derr, Jr., and his wife Leslie, Catawissa; eight grandchildren; and a sister Barbara Derr, Bloomsburg. There are also a number of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Chaplain Robert D. Barner, of Geisinger Medical Center Hospice, officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 to 10 a. m.
