Joan M. Carl

Joan M. Carl, age 74, 206 E. Third St., Mifflinville, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where she was a patient since June 25, 2008. She had been in failing health for five years.

Born on June 15, 1935, in Scott Township, Columbia County, she was a daughter of the late Lester W. and Helen L. (Follmer) Heckman.

She was a 1953 graduate of the former Scott Township High School. She resided in Espy for many years before moving to Mifflinville in 1989.

She was employed in the cafeteria of the Central Columbia School District as a cook for more than 30 years.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Tharon C. Carl, on March 12, 1982; by two grandsons: Eric Scott Musselman and Keith Andrew Musselman; by a brother, Dean Heckman, and by a sister, Jean Louise Heckman.

Surviving are three children: Cindi Musselman, Lancaster; twins: Dianne, wife of Rick Zimmerman, Millville, and Denny C. Carl, Fernville; four grandchildren: Kevin Musselman, Shane Zimmerman, Tyler Zimmerman and Ryan Zimmerman; a great-granddaughter, Lacey Zimmerman; three brothers: Jack Heckman, and his companion Joan, Nescopeck; Donald Heckman, and his wife Lorraine, Williamsport; James Heckman, and his wife Judy, Rupert; and a sister, Janet, wife of Paul Fahringer, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her niece, Patricia A. Millar, officiating. Interment will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
