Joan C. Gast, age 77, formerly of Clover Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 1:27 a. m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where she was a guest for two weeks. She was in failing health for three years.
Born in Queens, New York on November 2, 1932, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Cosgrove) Morrisey. She resided in Ocala, Florida prior to moving to Bloomsburg in 2001.
Joan was a 1950 graduate of St. Vincent Ferrer High School in New York City.
She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg.
Joan was an active volunteer in the gift shop at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville and also at Maria Joseph Manor, Danville, where she escorted patients to their medical appointments. She enjoyed attending her grandsons Little League games and other activities.
Her husband, Floyd H. Gast, preceded her in death on December 24, 2005.
Surviving are four children: Ann, wife of Kirk Reichart, Bloomsburg; Lorraine, wife of Mark Mielczarski, Smithtown, N.Y.; Vincent J. Gast, and his wife Linda, Lawrenceburg, Ken.; Karen, wife of Edward Grolz, Lake Grove, N.Y.; seven grandsons; a sister, Kathleen, wife of Kenneth Wrobel, Dover Plains, N.Y. and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:45 a. m. in St. Matthews Catholic Church, Dix Hills, New York. Interment in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, Long Island, N.Y.
Friends may call at the Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home, 1785 Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, N.Y. on Wednesday from 7-9:30 p. m. and Thursday from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Avenue, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
