Joan A. (Swayze) Troy

Joan A. (Swayze) Troy, age 83, of Spring Garden Ave., Berwick, died early Sunday morning, September 17, 2023 at her home after an illness.

Born in Trenton, NJ on January 12, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Frank W., Jr. and Virginia A. (Muschert) Swayze. Joan was a 1957 graduate of Biglerville High School in Upper Adams County. She attended college at night and graduated with a B.A. in Education from Trenton State College. She resided in Mifflinville from 1992 to 2017, when she moved to Berwick.

Joan was employed as a patient representative at Paul Kimball Hospital in Lakewood, NJ and later did substitute teaching in New Jersey.

She was a member of Shiloh Bible Church in Almedia, Miquon Chapter Daughters of American Colonists (D.A.C), and the Fort McClure Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R).

She was a caregiver for family members and friends and enjoyed gardening. She also enjoyed donating coffee at Orangeville Manor for veterans and volunteering at the VA Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James D. “Jim” Troy, on May 18, 2004.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol A. Troy, with whom she resided in Berwick, Linda A. D’Agosta, of Berwick; three grandchildren: Eugene, James, and Melanie; two great-granddaughters, Elysia and Liliana; two sisters, her twin, Lynn S., wife of Dale Dolly, of Fairfield, and Carol S. Fell, of Forked River, NJ; brother, Frank W. Swayze III, of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 7, 2023 at 1 p.m. in Shiloh Bible Church, 120 Church St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m.
