Joanna (Fice) Buckingham
Joanna (Fice) Buckingham, age 92, 4 Kent Road, Bloomsburg, died at her home at 9:19 a. m. Friday, April 11, 2014. She was in failing health for the past year.
Born in Sayre on November 13, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Leon R., Sr. and Josephine (Farrell) Fice. She resided in Bloomsburg since 1953.
Joanna was a 1939 graduate of Athens High School in Bradford County and a 1943 grauate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College. She did graduate work at Bucknell University, Lewisburg and received her Master's degree from Bloomsburg State College.
She was a teacher in the Athens Senior High School; Wellsboro Senior High School and last at the Bloomsburg Area High School, retiring in 1978 after 25 years of teaching.
Joanna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg, for 50 years, where she served as a trustee and elder. She also was active in the Woman's Association of the church and served as president of the group. She also belonged to the Ivy Club, Bloomsburg, the Order of the Eastern Star, and held membership in the honorary sororities, Pi Omega Pi and Kappa Delta Pi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd F. Buckingham, Sr., on January 20, 1995, after 51 years of marriage and by a brother, Graydon Fice.
Surviving are two children: Boyd F. Buckingham, Jr., and his wife Karen, Issaquah, Wash. and Gail Lynne, wife of W. Frank Worthington, who resided with her; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two brothers: Leon R. Fice, Jr., and his wife Mary Lou, Horseheads, N.Y. and Merle D. Fice, and his wife Kay, Wellsboro.
Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. David B. Pierce officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. A viewing will be held from 10-11 a. m. Wednesday.
