JOHN B. DURYEA
John B. Duryea, age 89, 1053 Salem Drive, Berwick, died at 9:35 p. m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at the Berwick Retirement Village II ( nursing home), Berwick.
Born on Sept. 7, 1922 in San Francisco, Calif., he was a son of the late Paul B. and Mary E. (Conway) Duryea. He resided in Berwick since 2008 and previously lived in Chambersburg for over ten years and in Valley Forge for more than 25 years before that.
He was a graduate of Berkeley University in California and a member of the Mensa Society.
John was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Chambersburg. He was a former glider pilot and enjoyed being on a fencing team and also taught fencing at the Montessori School, Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Edna M. Spence; a sister, Miriam and a brother, Robert.
Surviving are two daughters: Jacquelyn, wife of James Pulido, Fredericksburg, Va. and Elizabeth, wife of Carlos Escudero, Norristown; a granddaughter, Nicole McCutcheon, Fredericksburg, Va.; two grandsons: Corey Pulido, Greenville, N.C. and Carlos Escudero, Norristown; two step-grandchildren: Patrick Escudero and Tina Sherman; 2 great grandchildren, David McCutcheon and Nathan Sherman; and a sister, Noreen, wife of Duane Dobratz, Williamsburg, Va. His special caregiver since moving to Berwick was Jeanie Fenstermacher.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. There will be no viewing. Interment at the convenience of the family in the columbarium of Trinity Episcopal Church, Chambersburg.
