John A. Nolan Jr.
John A. Nolan, Jr., age 88, formerly of 257 Benton Manor, Benton, died at 3:30 a. m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where he was a guest for 12 days. He had been in failing health for several months.
Born in Philadelphia on January 1, 1924, he was a son of the late John A. and Theresa (Griffin) Nolan. He was a 1949 graduate of St. Josephâs College, Philadelphia.
John resided in Benton for 20 years and previously lived in Ireland for 10 years and the Philadelphia area prior to that.
He was last employed as Vice-President of Domestic Sales for Industrial Appraisal Co., Philadelphia.
John enjoyed golfing at Mill Race Golf Course, Benton.
He served with the U. S. Marine Corps for four years during World War II and was a rifleman with the 1st Marine Division in Guadalcanal. He also served in New Zealand, Fiji Islands, Australia and the Battle of the British Solomon Islands.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Catherine T. Lawless and a daughter Sharon F. Inman.
Surviving are six children: John A. Nolan, III, and his wife Helen, Huntsville, Ala.; Robert L. Nolan, and his wife Patricia, Marietta, Ga.; Michael T. Nolan, and his wife Cassandra, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; Barbara A., wife of Robert Coyle, Laurel Springs, N.J. Marc E. Nolan, and his wife MariCriz, Woodstock, Ga.; David A. Nolan, and his wife Patricia, Medford Lakes, N.J.; a son-in-law, John Inman, Atlanta, Ga.; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
