JOHN  R.  SCHNEE

John R. Schnee, age 80, 24 Spring Hollow Lane, Bloomsburg, died at his home at 1:50 a. m. Saturday, December 3, 3011 after being in failing health for several years.

Born in Sunbury on September 26, 1931, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary (Pickles) Schnee. He resided in Hemlock Township since 1974 and previously lived in the Stroudsburg area.

John graduated from Sunbury High School in 1949 and went on to serve in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War.

He was employed by Verizon Telephone Co. and it's predessor, the Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1987.

John was a member of the Buckhorn United Methodist Church; Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436; Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion; the Telephone Pioneers of America; and the Buckhorn Community Fire Co.

Surviving are his wife, the former Phyllis M. Shively, with whom he celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on May 29, 2011; four children: Timothy J. Schnee, State College; Susan P. Schnee, State College area; Gregory C. Schnee, and his companion, Barbara Gill, Bloomsburg; Laura E., wife of Jeffrey Wolfe, Bloomsburg; three step-daughters: Cynthia L., wife of Thomas Gensemer, Danville; Holly A., wife of Jeffrey Shipe, Paxinos; Lori C., wife of Robert Campos, Kileen, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Barbara, wife James Duttinger, Melrose, Fla. and June, wife of Richard Sumerick, New Martinsville, West Va.; and a brother, James Schnee, Louisville, Ky.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Audrey M. Brosious officiating. Interment in Dutch Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p. m.
