John R. Shoup, age 65, 336 Pine St., Catawissa, died at 11:05 p. m. Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Health care Center, where he was a patient since December, 2012. He was in failing health for a number of years.
Born In Paterson, New Jersey on July 20, 1948, he was a son of the late Arthur C., Sr. and Arnetta (Clark) Shoup.
John was a 1966 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
He resided in the Buckhorn and Catawissa areas for much of his life, except for about 10 years in West Virginia.
John was last employed by Humana Hospital, Green Briar in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Earlier he was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg for over 20 years.
John enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a son, Douglas H. Shoup, and his wife Jessica, Berwick; a granddaughter, Abigail A. Shoup, Berwick; three brothers: Arthur R. Shoup, Jr., and his wife Mary Jane, York; Irvin Shoup, and his wife Glenna, Catawissa; Glen Shoup, and his wife Dorothea, Spokane, Wash.; a step-brother, Michael Shoup, and his wife Tammi and a -step sister, Jane, wife of Ronald Taylor, all of York.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Auten.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church St., Bloomsburg (Almedia), with the Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, pastor of the Church officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick.
