JOSEPH F. HARMS
Joseph F. Harms, age 87, 107 Albertson Road, Orangeville, died at 7:25 a. m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where he was a patient for two and a half years.
Born in Newark, New Jersey on January 6, 1923, he was a son of the late Joseph and Helen (Lerman) Harms. He resided in Fishingcreek Township since 1980 and formerly lived in Milltown, New Jersey.
Joe was employed by the Hatfield Wire & Cable Co. in New Jersey for many years and at Bloomsburg Carpet Co., for seven years. Shoppers at Weis Markets and Giant Market fondly called him "the candy man" as he was always passing out candy to shoppers he met in the stores.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Joe served with the US Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Evelyn Higgenbotham, on February 21, 1971.
Surviving are his wife, the former Pauline (Stoehr) Lange, whom he married on July 13, 1973; a son, Raymond Harms, and his wife Sandra, Howell, New Jersey; a daughter, Karen, wife of Allen Hess, Melbourne, Fla.; a step-son, Stephen Lange, and his wife Janet, Tallbott, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his dog, Samantha.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a. m. in Elan Memorial Park, 5595 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg. Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW group.
There will be no calling hours and kindly omit flowers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
