Joyce A. Girton

Joyce A. (Fisher) Girton, age 74, 128 Valley View Drive, Mifflinville, died at her home at 6:12 a. m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 after being in failing health for the past three years.

Born in Mainville on November 1, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Herman W. and Rose (Petock) Fisher. She spent her life in Columbia County and was a 1960 graduate of Central Columbia High School.

Joyce was a legal secretary/abstractor for attorney Cleveland C. Hummel, Bloomsburg,  for 31 years before retiring.

She was an active  member of the Ridge Street United Methodist Church, Almedia, for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher, a Bible school teacher and a member of the Christian Women's group. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society and was a former member of the Mifflinville Cemetery  Board.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant sons and a sister, Ginger Pickering.

Joyce is survived by her husband, J. Jan Girton, with whom she celebrated her 56th wedding anniversary on March 31, 2017; a son, Jon J. Girton, and his wife Lorie, New Market, Ala.; a daughter, Joelle, wife of John Leh, Bloomsburg; five grandchildren: Kristen Elliott; Brandon Girton, and his wife Angie; Megan Girton; Lily Leh; Rose Leh; four great grandchildren: Elizabeth Elliott; Leeann Elliott, Mattelyn Elliott, Amelia  Girton; three siblings: Rosemary, wife of Larry Crawford, Benton; Dennis Fisher, and his wife Carole; Jeanett, wife of Kenneth DeBonis, Orangeville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a. m. in the Ridge Street United Methodist Church, 145 Ridge St., Bloomsburg (Almedia) with her pastor, Virginia C. Bailey officiating. Interment in the Mifflinville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, on Friday from 5-7 p.m. or at the Church on Saturday after 9 a. m.
