June D. Blackledge, age 92, formerly of West Fourth St., Bloomsburg, where she resided for 40 years, died at 2:15 p. m. Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Millville Health & Rehabilitation Center, Millville, where she was a guest since March, 2013.
Born in Berwick on March 25, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Pearl (Smith) Oberst. She was a 1941 graduate of Berwick High School and resided in Bloomsburg since 1950.
June was employed by the former Clair C. Hock, Inc., Bloomsburg, for 20 years as a bookkeeper and last by the Area Agency on Aging at several of the local senior centers. She found great joy in doing this job until she had to retire in 2011 due to poor health.
She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was very important to her. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, she loved to watch sports of all kind.
June was an active member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Bloomsburg, as long as her health permitted.
She found great joy in helping out at her church and most days you could find her in her own kitchen baking. She was well known for her cookies, pies and cinnamon rolls. She loved to share her goodies with many people. One of her greatest joys was cooking wonderful meals and having her family there to enjoy them with her
She was preceded in death by her husband, John âJackâ Blackledge, Jr., on Sept. 29, 1970; by three sons: Larry Heller on June 29, 2013; Daniel J. Blackledge on Jan. 27, 2012; David J. Blackledge, Sr., on Dec. 6, 2013; and a daughter, Linda (Heller) Telesky on Feb. 6, 2011.
Surviving is a son, Thomas Blackledge, and his wife Amelia, Bloomsburg; two daughters in law;: Linda Heller, Bernville and Deb Blackledge, Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren: Karen, wife of Brent Auge; Kimberly Heller; Diane Morgan; David Blackledge, Jr,, and his wife Jackie; Matt Telesky;, and his wife Jennifer; Joe Telesky, and his wife Maggie; John Blackledge; and seven great-grandchildren: Ryan; Harper; Kennedy; Colt; Wyatt; Abigail; and Andrew.
A service in celebration of her life will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Stephen D. Engelhardt officiating. Private burial will be made in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a. m.
