KATHRYN A. "KAY" HESS
Kathryn A. "Kay" Hess, age 87, of Blue Bell, Montgomery County, died at 8:30 p. m. Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Normandy Farms Estates, a nursing facility, at Blue Bell where she was a patient for two years. Her death followed a lengthy illness.
Born on January 18, 1922 in Fishingcreek Township, she was a daughter of the late Arthur J. and Bessie M. (VanLiew) Hess.
Kay was a 1939 graduate of Benton High School and a 1943 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College. She received her masters degree in education from Penn State University.
She taught in the Colonial School District at Plymouth-Whitemarsh and Conshohocken for 41 years, retiring in 1984. Most of her teaching career was spent in teaching 5th & 6th grades.
Kay was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Fishingcreek Township.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances E. Hess on Nov. 1 2004; by a brother Richard A. Hess; and a great-nephew, Christopher Hatfield in Oct., 2004.
Surviving is a niece, Kathy J. Hatfield, Sewell, N.J.; two great-nieces: Heather Novak, Wilmington, Del. and Jennifer Hatfield, Barrington, N. J.; and a great-great nephew, Jonathan Hatfield, Vineland, N.J.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment to follow in Jonestown Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton.
