Kathryn A. “Kate” Lawton, age 78, of 7190 Scenic Knolls Drive, Bloomsburg, died at her home at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, after having been in failing health for the past year.
Born in Wolf Township, Lycoming County on September 1, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Charlotte (Geiger) Buck. She graduated from the former Hughesville High School with high honors in 1955. She resided in South Centre township since 1958.
Kate was employed by the former Lawton Trucking Company as a bookkeeper and office worker, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mifflinville, where she served several terms on the church council.
Kate enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends, and especially the time spent at the family cabin in Lycoming County. She enjoyed outdoor activities; including hunting, fishing, gardening and snowmobiling; as well as painting, crafts, cards and reading books.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Hopfer.
Surviving are her husband, Larry P. Lawton, with whom she celebrated her 57th wedding anniversary on September 20, 2015; a son, Daniel J. Lawton, wife Patty, Bloomsburg; a daughter, Amy K., wife of Gordon Acornley, Jr., Orangeville; four grandchildren: Hope Lawton, Jake Lawton, Spencer Acornley and Lucas Acornley; and three step-grandsons: Jacob Martz, Nathan Martz and Caleb Martz.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Brian D. Vasey officiating. Interment in Mifflinville Cemetery. Viewing at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
