Kenneth E. Sorber, age 86 of Bloomsburg, passed away at 11:20 p. m. Thursday, November 29, 2017 at the Grandview Health & Rehabilitation in Danville where was a guest since September, 2017.
Born in North Centre Township on September 30, 1931, he was a son of the late Dayton E. and Emeline A. (Savage) Sorber.
Ken graduated from the former Scott Township High School in 1950. Following high school, he served in the U. S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, including a one year assignment to Sondrestrom Air Base in Greenland.
He was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg, for 25 years and then at Bloomsburg University for 20 years, retiring in 1995. He then continued part time work for a number of years with a U.S. Postal Service contractor delivering mail to Post Offices, including Bloomsburg, Orangeville, Stillwater, Benton and Millville.
Ken was an active member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ for 55 years, serving on various committees, the consistory and as the church sexton for many years. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 41 years, the former Evelyn J. Wintersteen, on April 4, 1996 and by a sister, Esther Steinruck.
Surviving are three sons: Timothy E. Sorber, and his wife Jayne, Gettysburg; Thomas W. Sorber, and his wife Lori, Rush, New York; Todd A. Sorber, and his wife Lisa, Covington Township; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his longtime companion, Beverly Lee, Bloomsburg; two brothers: Donald Sorber, and his wife Joan and Dean Sorber, Orangeville; a brother in law, James Wintersteen, and his wife Patricia, Bloomsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 10:30 aa. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Steven C. Hummel officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, where military honors will be performed by the combined veteran group. Friends and family may call at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 a. m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 E. Seventh Street, Bloomsburg, Pa 17815.
