Larry O. Johnson

Larry O. Johnson, age 69, of Pee Wee Hill Rd., Bloomsburg, passed away on Wednesday May 1, 2024, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Hazleton on July 8, 1954, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Lucille M. (Fisher) Johnson. A 1972 graduate of Central Columbia High School, he was a lifetime resident of the Bloomsburg area.

Larry was employed as a heavy equipment operator and was last employed for Balschak Coal Company in Mahanoy City before retiring in 2018 due to ill health.

He enjoyed having dinner with high school friends, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and mowing the grass. Prior to his illness, he loved to golf.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a great-grandson, Jace Kowalski.

Surviving is his wife, the former Vickie Knorr, with whom he celebrated their 51^st wedding anniversary on July 29, 2023; son, Larry O. Johnson, II, and his wife Terry, of Bloomsburg; daughter, Heather Kowalski, and her partner Jim Turner, of Mifflinville; five grandchildren: Dain Kowalski, twins, Trystan Johnson and Taylor Johnson, Trent Kowalski, and Troy Johnson; and three great-grandchildren: Blaire Kowalski, Blake Kowalski, and Scarlett Kowalski.

Also surviving are seven siblings: Barbara, wife of Joseph Dragon, of Bloomsburg, Darlene, wife of Bobby Kocher, of Bloomsburg, Karen Johnson, of Bloomsburg, Robert Johnson, and his wife Jo Ann, of Hettlerville, Susan, wife of Larry Kemmerer, of Bloomsburg, Wendy, wife of Randy Moyer, of Zion Grove, and Allen Johnson, and his wife Tina, of Hettlerville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Rev. Daniel Warntz, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Mifflinville, officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
