Larry P. Lawton

Larry P. Lawton, age 85, of Mifflinville and formerly of Bloomsburg, died early Tuesday December 5, 2023 at The Gardens At Orangeville.

Born in Muncy on September 27, 1938, he was a son of the late Preston L. and Hope W. (Girton) Lawton. He was a 1956 graduate of Muncy High School, where he was an outstanding wrestler.

Larry served his country by serving in the U.S. Army from October 1961 to October 1963.

He was the Vice President of the former P.L. Lawton Trucking Company for many years and was later employed by the former Alumax Corporation in Bloomsburg.

Larry was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mifflinville.

He was a member of Washington Lodge 265 F & A.M., Bloomsburg, Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, and Irem Temple Shrine, Dallas. He also belonged to the Antique Truck Club and enjoyed woodworking and snowmobiling.

Larry especially enjoyed attending Muncy class of 1956 gatherings.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Kathryn A. “Kate” (Buck) Lawton on March 3, 2016 and JoAnne (Linder) Lawton on April 11, 2023, and by a sister, Joyce Lehman.

Surviving is his son, Daniel J. Lawton, and his wife Dr. Patricia, of Bloomsburg; daughter, Amy K., wife of Gordon Acornley, Jr., of Orangeville; four grandchildren: Hope Phillips, Jake Lawton, Spencer Acornley, Lucas Acornley; and three step-grandsons, Jacob Martz, Nathan Martz, and Caleb Martz.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Daniel W. E. Warntz, officiating. Interment will follow in Mifflinville Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
