Laszlo Balla, age 82, 279 Summit Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 3:21 a. m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown where he had been a patient since being burned in an accident at his home on August 30, 2012.
Born in Budapest, Hungary on April 5, 1930, he was a son of the late Janos and Maria (Greif) Balla. He resided in Bloomsburg since 1987 and previously lived in New York City.
Laszlo was employed as a mechanic by the Federal Express Co. for many years, first in New York City and last in Moosic. His fellow employees referred to him as âthe mechanic with the magic touchâ. He was a talented machinist and made many of his own tools.
He was a baptized Catholic. In his early life in Hungary he was a pilot.
Laslo served with the US Army for five years and was last stationed at West Point, New York. He was a member of the Arthur Bardo American Legion Post 564, Millville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Balla and two sisters: Ilona Turi and Anna Balla.
Surviving are his wife, the former Judith A. Reifendifer, with whom he celebrated his 36th wedding anniversary on December 29, 2011; two sons: Michael J. Balla, and his companion Lynn Makar, Berwick and Mark A. Balla, Bloomsburg; and a grandson, Michael L. Balla, Berwick. He was the last of his immediate family.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
