LaVerne M. Wolfe

LaVerne M. Wolfe, age 86, 21 Apple Lane, Bloomsburg and formerly of Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died at 9:29 a. m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Signature Health Care in Scott Township where she was a patient since Monday.

Born in Pottstown on January 20, 1930, she was a daughter of the late John and Marian (Ingram) Mayer. She resided in Bloomsburg since 1940 and was a 1947 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

LaVerne was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., for 45 years and was an executive secretary when she retired in 1995.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, where she was involved with many activities including, WELCA, Bible study, choir and served as a member and president of the church council. She was a former member of St. Matthew Lutheran  Church, Bloomsburg, where she was also very active, serving on the church council, member of LCW, and  on the finance and endowment committees. Earlier she was a member of several women’s organizations.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Wolfe  on Nov. 21, 2012 and by two sisters: Marjorie M. Shaffer on Nov, 14, 1989 and Kathryn Holland.

Surviving is a son, Jeffrey J. Wolfe, and his wife Tammy and a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Wolfe, all of Bloomsburg.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Gordon E. Smith, officiating. Interment will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call on Saturday from 10-11 a. m.
