Leah Alice Bower, age 88, of 2209 Third St., Bloomsburg, died of natural causes on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing in Danville.
Born in Evansville, Briar Creek Township, on October 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jason M. and Floe (Adams) Bower. Alice attended a one-room school house as a child until 1943 and graduated from Berwick High School in 1950. She had been a Bloomsburg resident since 1952.
Retiring in 1998, Alice was an office manager for Foam Fabricators in Bloomsburg for over 18 years. She previously worked at Rea & Derrick’s (CVS) in Bloomsburg and at Sears in Bloomsburg as a switchboard operator, clerk in the package room, and in the service department.
She was an accomplished seamstress and had her own home business with many faithful customers.
Alice was a member of First English Baptist Church, having joined in 1993. She was a former member of the Bloomsburg TOPS chapter #759 for 23 years. Alice enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, and being with her family. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
In addition to her mother, who died on July 2, 1943, and father, who died on May 17, 1963, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert F. Bower in 1979; two sisters: Ellen Bower Kalbach in 2009 and Iva Adams in 2019; a stepmother, Hattie M. Bower; infant grandson, Timothy Earl Shollenberger in 1983, and companion, Robert S. LeVan in 2016.
She is survived by four children: Molly Bomboy Shollenberger, wife of Donald, of Bloomsburg, Jeffery P. Bomboy, and his wife Renee, of Wyoming, PA; Christina Bomboy Gaudreau, wife of Richard, of Mt. Wolf, and Andrew J. Bomboy, and his wife Lori, Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Bomboy Shumaker, Abigail Bomboy Aughenbaugh, Mark Shollenberger, Ryan and David Gaudreau, and Katie and Colin Bomboy; and three great-grandchildren: Luke and Jeffrey Shumaker and Hannah Aughenbaugh.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. L. Lee Barnhardt, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Private burial will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
