LeRoy E. "Lee" Burdis, age 80, 77 Brentwood Circle, Bloomsburg, died at his home at 9:07 p. m. Monday, January 11, 2010, after being in failing health for several years.
Born in East Pittsburgh, Alleheny County on December 1, 1929, he was a son of the late Joseph, Sr. and Helen (Bowers) Burdis. He resided in Scott Township for seven years and previously lived in Berwick from 1972 to 2002.
He was a graduate of Turtle Creek High School, Turtle Creek in 1948 and also attended the Robert Morris College, Pittsburgh.
Lee began his banking career at the Mellon Bank office in Wilkinsburg in 1961.
In 1972 he became the Executive Vice-President of the Berwick National Bank, which later became a part of First Eastern Bank and is currently PNC Bank. He retired in 1993 as Senior Vice -President, Retail Banking Services.
He had a lifelong interest in the history of the Civil War.
Lee was a member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Surviving are his wife Edith, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 10, 2009; two sons: David Burdis, and his companion Judie Beneccio,
Monessen; Chriss Burdis, and his wife Gail, Sagamore Hills, Ohio; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph Burdis, Jr., Hampstead, Maryland. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at 12 noon in the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1640 Main Street, Lightstreet. There will be no viewing. Private interment will be made in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
