Lois K. Payne, age 91, 5063 State Route 487, Benton, died at 10:52 p. m. Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was admitted earlier in the day.
Born in Easton on February 16, 1926, she was the only child of the late Harold and Ruth (Chestnut) Knipe. She resided in Benton for ten years and previously lived in Stroudsburg.
Lois was a 1944 graduate of Stroudsburg High School and also attended the Churchman Business School, Allentown. Later she graduated from East Stroudsburg State College.
She was a secretary early in her life and later served as an assistant to the Dean of the Health Science Department for 20 years. She was last employed as an assistant professor of history at Albemarle College, Manteo, North Carolina.
Lois was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, East Stroudsburg. She was an avid animal lover and supported the World Wild Life Fund and SPCA. Her beloved cat was Baxter. She also volunteered at the Northern Columbia Community & Cultural Center, Benton and previously had been a volunteer at the Monroe County Library, where she also was a member of the Friends of The Library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Payne in January, 1979 and by a son, Rory Payne.
Her only survivor is a son, Dale W. Payne, who resided with her.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton.
