Lois I. (Ticknor) Wintersteen, age 88, formerly of 9 Dahl Road, Bloomsburg (Buckhorn) died peacefully at 10:15 a. m. Tuesday at the Golden Living Center - Mansion Nursing Home, Sunbury, with her family and the staff by her side. She resided there since 2003.
She was born on April 18, 1924 in Zerbe Township, Northumberland County, a daughter of the late George and Martha (Geise) Ticknor. She was a 1941 graduate of Trevorton High School and resided in Sunbury for many years.
Lois was employed as a seamstress at various garment factories for 52 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of St. Peterâs Lutheran Church, Columbia Hill, Danville.
Lois enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading and participating in the many activities at Golden Living Center - Mansion where she was well known for having created over 80 fleece blankets for other residents, family and staff.. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to casinos, where she always took an abundance of quarters she had saved.
In 1941 she married Robert Rice and he preceded her in death in 1985 after 24 years of marriage. Later she met and fell in love with Alvin O. Wintersteen of Buckhorn and they were married on January 18, 1993.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Sandra, wife of Lynn Becker, Cape May Court House, NJ and Donna, wife of Bob Dunkle, Sunbury; two step daughters: Theresa, wife of Charles Filipowicz, Bellefonte and Debbie Livezey, Plymouth Meeting; five grandsons Christopher Becker and Lynn Becker, both of Burke, Va.; Robert Hummel, and his wife Sherry Harrisburg; Richard Sinko, and his fianceâ Michelle Suhovsky, Northumberland; Michael Hummel, and his wife Jeannie, Sunbury; 15 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ilene Knoedler, Lima and Faye, wife of Morris Yordy, Paxinos; and her best friends: Helen Lahr, a resident of Golden Living Center - Mansion and Bobby Gordon, Sunbury.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a great-great-granddaughter, Ayiram Dewalt; a sister, Shirley Gotshall; and a brother, Edward Ticknor.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a. m. in St. Peterâs Lutheran Church, 726 Columbia Hill Road, Danville, with her pastor, Rev. Robert A. Kerchoff officiating. Interment in the Columbia Hill Cemetery. Viewing at the Church from 10-11 a. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent in her memory to St. Peterâs Lutheran Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville.
