Lonni D. Fornwald, age 58, of 1120 Numidia Dr., Catawissa (Numidia), died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday November 13, 2022.
Born in Bloomsburg on October 28, 1964, he was the son of Linda (Schlieder) Heller and the late Dale E. Fornwald. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1982 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Lonni was employed as a corrections officer at S.C.I. Coal Township for 22 years, retiring in 2015.
He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1982-1987. Lonni was a member of Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion, for 25 years and the Auxiliary of VFW Post 804. He belonged to Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436 for 31 years.
He was a coach for the Roaring Creek Valley baseball league from T-Ball to teener league. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Haneyville, PA and Pulaski, NY.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shannon Kay Fornwald; his step-father, Guy Boyer; and his father-in-law, David E. Sanders.
Surviving are his wife, the former Tammy J. Sanders, with whom he celebrated his 19th wedding anniversary on March 8, 2022; a son, Bo Kiessling, and his wife Kelsey, of Trevorton; a grandson, Brayden Kiessling; mother, Linda, wife of Larry Heller, of Espy; sister, Sheila Kile, and her significant other Francis French, of Mount Rose; and a niece, Erin Kile, and her fiancé Tyler Todd, of Newtown Square.
Funeral services will be held on Friday November 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with pastor Kim Rossi, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park with military honors by the U.S. Air Force and the combined VFW and American Legion honor guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
