Lewis K. Lewis, age 85, formerly of Market St., Benton, died at 5:45 p. m. Thursday, September 24, 2014, at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Orangeville, where she was a patient since August 1. She previously resided at Loyalton of Bloomsburg for three years.
Born in Benton on October 3, 1928, she was a daughter of the late H. Hurl and Audrey K. (Hess) Hess. A lifelong resident of Benton, she graduated from Benton High School in 1946.
Louise was employed by the Benton Area School District as a secretary from 1967 to 1993 in the principalâs office, when she retired. She also was secretary for Benton Boro Council from November 1971 to October 1975 and again from January, 1987 to December, 1987. She was employed as a teller in the Benton Office of the former Columbia County Farmers National Bank from 1948 to 1954.
Louise was a longtime member of the former Benton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as secretary from May 1977 to January 1981. She also was a Notary Public from 1949 to 1988.
Her husband, Claude M. Lewis, former Benton Police Chief, died on December 16, 1974.
Surviving are a son, Barry M. Lewis, and his wife Maria, Millville; a foster, daughter, Audrey M. (Workman) Seawell, Fredericksburg, Va.; a grandson, Matthew A. Lewis, Millville; a sister, Beatrice M. Roberts, Benton; a nephew and a niece.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with Scott L. Lyons, associate pastor of the Stillwater Christian Church officiating. Interment in the Benton Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 - 11 a. m.
