Lucille H. Peabody, age 89, formerly of Maple Lane Estates, White Haven, died at 7:15 .a. m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she was a patient for two weeks. She was in failing health for the past two years.
Born on May 30, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the only child of the late Homer and Ethel (Hilliard) Coutant. She resided in White Haven from 1984 to 2011 and previously lived on Long Island, New York.
Lucille was a synchronized swimmer, performing with the Flushing Hills Aquacade, with well known performers such as Buster Crabbe and Guy Lombardo, early in her life. Later she was a hand model and a homemaker. She spent much of her time with her disabled son, Scott, and was an avid crocheter.
She was a member of St. Patrickâs Catholic Church, White Haven.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, James Merrill Peabody in 1991; by two sons: James Carbone and Joseph DeFazio; and a daughter, Tracy Koerner.
Surviving are seven children: Arthur DeFazio, and his wife Joanne, Cleveland, Ohio; Ethel Tatrault, East Northport, L.I., NY; Kathryn, wife of James LaBar, Bloomsburg; JoAnne, wife of Edwin Deihl, Bloomsburg; Bruce Peabody, and his wife Gina, Hazleton; Robin, wife of Mark DeVall, Summerfield, Fla.; Scott Peabody, Hazleton; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence. Interment in St. Patrickâs Cemetery, White Haven. There will be no viewing.
