Luther D. Coleman, age 89, 3820 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Almedia) died at 11:23 a.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for one day. He was in failing health for the past month.
Born on September 11, 1922 in Fowlersville, North Centre Township. He was the son of the late Anna Coleman McAllister. He resided in the Almedia area most of his life and was a 1940 graduate of the former Scott Township High School.
Luther was employed by the former TRW, Inc. plant, Danville for 35 years before retiring.
He was a longtime member of the Ridge Street United Methodist Church, Almedia and the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
Luther was a US Army veteran of service in World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre, serving in New Guinea. He received the American TheatreRibbon; Asiatic Pacific Ribbon; with one bronze star; and the World War II Victory medal.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Charlotte May Bisset, on December 31, 1989.
Surviving are his current wife, the former Laura (Palmer) Brassington and five sons:
Donald L. Coleman, and his wife LouAnn; Ronald G. Coleman; Wallace J. Coleman, and his wife Karen; Gene L. Coleman, and his wife Shelby; Luther D. Coleman, Jr., and his wife Mary, all of the Almedia-Bloomsburg area; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several step children and step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in Ridge Street United Methodist Church 145 Ridge Street, Bloomsburg (Almedia) with his pastor, Rev. Robert J. Eddinger officiating. Interment in Creveling Cemetery, Almedia, with military honors by the combined VFW group.
Friends may call at the Church from 10-11 a. m. Wednesday.
