Luther D. Schlauch, age 84, formerly of Philadelphia, died at 3:38 a. m. Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where he had resided since December, 2007.
Born in Nuremberg on October 9, 1925, he was a son of the late Elisher F. and Bessie F. (Welsh) Schlauch. He was a graduate of the former Nuremberg High School and resided in Philadelphia for 60 years prior to entering the nursing home..
Luther was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Co., Philadelphia for over 40 years.
He was of the Lutheran faith having been a member of the Nuremberg Lutheran Church in his early life.
Luther served with the US Army during World War II in the Central Europe Rhineland campaign.
He was the last of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two sisters: Thelma Aten and Shirley Harvey; and by five brothers: Clyde Schlauch, Edison Schlauch, Paul Schlauch, Junior Schlauch and Carl D. Schlauch. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Phillip K. Smith, pastor of the Nuremberg & Mt. Zion Lutheran Churches officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge with military honors by the combined VFW group.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 p. m.
