LYNN E. SHAW
Lynn E. Shaw, age 68, 315 Fifth Street, Benton, died at 3:05 a. m. Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for 1 1/2 days. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Born at the Bloomsburg Hospital on May 3, 1943, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Betty L. (Hosler) Strauch. She was a lifelong resident of Benton and a 1961 graduate of Benton Area High School.
Lynn was employed by the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit 13 at their office in Montandon from 1992 to 2005 when she retired. Earlier she was employed by the Benton Area School District and at the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College.
She was a member of the Benton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 37 years. She also was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood.
Lynn was a strong woman of faith and enjoyed spreading God's word. She was proud to serve on the board of the Patterson Grove Camp Ground where she was the secretary-treasurer.
Being the mom of Rebecca and Dena was important to Lynn, but most importantly her pride and joy was in being a "nana".
Lynn enjoyed spending her summers at Patterson Grove Camp Ground, her annual trip with her three compadres and her shopping trips to Wegmans with her brother, Marc. She also enjoyed doing missionary work, making trips to Haiti, Mexico and New Orleans following hurricane Katrina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Shaw, on August 12, 2002.
Surviving are two daughters: Dena M. R., wife of David P. Snyder, Sunbury; Rebecca L., wife of Aaron R. Wandell, Benton; six grandchildren: Isaac, Sabre, Rachel and Lillian Whitenight; Ryan Bond and Kelly Hartnett; five great-grandchildren: Riley, Tyler, Evelyn, Autumn and Joslyn; her brother, Marc A. Strauch, and his wife Ida, Benton; two nephews: Marc Strauch and Aric Strauch; and a great-niece, Holden Strauch.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in the Benton United Methodist Church, Main Street, Benton, with her pastor, Calvin L. Miller and the Rev. William Gibson, retired United Methodist minister officiating. Interment in Benton Cemetery.
Friends may call on Sunday from 4-6 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton.
