M. Vance Shellahamer
M. Vance Shellahamer, age 99, 6135 Pickwick Road, Tallahassee, Fla., died Thursday morning, July 3, 2014, at the Capital Regional Medical Center, Tallahassee, where he was a patient for five days.
Born in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County on August 13, 1914, he was the only child of the late Raymond and Katie I. (Boyer) Shellahamer. He resided in Tallahassee since 2008 and previously resided at State Route 239, Huntington Mills for 29 years.
He was a 1938 graduate of Upper Paxtang High School in Dauphin County and also attended the Parks Air College in St. Louis, Missouri
Vance was employed as an aircraft mechanic by the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co., Baltimore, Md., starting in 1940 and worked there until 1956. Following that he was employed by various companies in Florida in the same capacity until he retired.
He was an active member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church, where he participated in many functions. He especially enjoyed his many church activities as well as living on the farm in Huntington Township. He also belonged to the Loyal Order Of the Moose Lodge in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Vance was preceded in death by two wives: Marion E. (Crouse) Shellahamer, Nov., 1963 and the Elsie I. (Yingst) Koch Shellahamer on August 22, 2006; and a daughter, Kathy Godwin in 2010.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia, wife of Kenneth King, Hampstead, Md.; a son, Bentley Shellahamer, and his wife Barbara, with whom he resided in Florida; a step-son, Karl D. Koch, and his wife Joanne, Annville; a step-daughter, Patricia Hannon, Shermansdale; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 3 p. m. in the Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, with his pastor, Rev. Bethany P. Wood officiating. Interment at New Columbus Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 2-3 p. m.
