Mae I. Lechleitner, age 80, formerly of 90 Register Road, Huntington Mills, died at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater (Register) where she was a guest since January 2006.
Born on May 23, 1927, Huntington Township, Luzerne County, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Harold Sr. and Ruth E. (Franklin) McHenry. She spent her entire life in Huntington Township and was a 1945 graduate of the former Huntington High School in Huntington Mills.
Mae was employed in the cafeteria of the Northwest Area High School for 36 years and was food service manager for 26 of those years, retiring in 1992, She also had been employed part-time at the former Benscoter Home for Children at Register; and following her retirement, she was employed in the kitchen at Bonham Nursing Center for 10 years.
Mae loved to be in the kitchen where she cooked and baked every Sunday afternoon and every holiday for her family and anyone else who dropped by.
A lifelong member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church, she belonged to the United Methodist Women's group of the Church and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She also volunteered for the Compeer Mental Health Program in Bloomsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Glenn R. Lechleitner, on May 21, 2007; and by a sister, Marian McHenry in 1927.
Surviving are two son's; Ronald G. Lechleitner and his wife, Leandra, and Donald G. Lechleitner and his wife, Debra, both of Stillwater; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Bonham Wagner, Stillwater; a brother, Frederick H. "Sonny" McHenry, Jr and his wife, Jane, Montgomery, AL and several nieces and nephews.
