Marcella L. (Gensel) Baker
Marcella L. (Gensel) Baker, age 89, 625 Ann St., Nescopeck (Mifflinville), died at her home on Sunday, April 5, 2015 and was pronounced dead at 1:30 p. m. She had been in failing health for several years.
Born in Bloomsburg on November 18, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Mary E. (Hunsinger) Gensel. She resided in Mifflinville for 50 years and previously lived in Hetlerville and Bloomsburg where she was a 1943 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Marcella was employed by the Central Columbia School District in the cafeteria for 27 years and was the head cook when she retired in 1992.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mifflinville. She enjoyed corcheting, making afghans and cooking for her family.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Roland E. Baker on Nov. 3, 1986; by a grandson, Stephen M. Baker on Oct. 16, 1992; by a great-granddaughter, Chelsea Wolford; two brothers: James H. Gensel and Elias N. Gensel; and by two step daughters: Edna V. Parker and Kathryn Holloway.
Surviving are four children: Roland W. Baker, and his wife Shirley, Mifflinville; Marcella L. Fletcher, Nanticoke; Pauline C., wife of Bert Eckroth, Mifflinville; Harry E. Baker, and his wife Sara Butler/Baker, Benton; two step-daughters: Audrey, wife of Gerald Yeager, Catawissa and Donna, wife of William Drumheller, Orangeville; a daughter-in-law, Frances Smith, Bloomsburg; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a number of step great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family .
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders, interim pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mifflinville officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
Viewing will be on Thursday from 6-8 p. m. at the funeral home.
