Margaret J. "Peggy" Stewart

Margaret J. “Peggy” Stewart, age 82, 3720 Second Street, Bloomsburg (Almedia), died at 10:23 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where she was a guest for three weeks. She was in failing health for the past month.

Born in Bloomsburg on November 2, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Miah and Florence (Rupert) Cole. Her lifetime was spent in the Bloomsburg area and she was a 1951 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

Peggy was employed at various retail stores in the Bloomsburg area and in her early life she was a lifeguard at Knoebel’s Amusement Park. She was probably best known for having operated the former Cole’s Oyster Stand at the Bloomsburg Fair, which was in her family for over 145 years, until she closed it several years ago.

She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed playing cards and working at the Bloomsburg Fair. She and her family spent many enjoyable years camping at Diehl’s Camp Ground near Orangeville.r

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Fred C. Stewart, Jr.,  on February 6, 1999.

Surviving are her sons, Gregg A. Stewart, who resided with her and Mark C. Stewart, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; a step daughter, Deborah C. Hyde, Panama City, Fla.; and a brother, Dale M. Cole,  Carefree, Ariz.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
