Marie L. Hoyt

Marie L. Hoyt, age 91, 108 E. Third Street, Bloomsburg, died at 3:30 a. m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where she she was a patient for three weeks.

Born in Bloomsburg on October 2, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Harvey E. and Ethel M. (Hartman) Long. She was raised by the late Boyd and Fannie Fry, her aunt and uncle.

A lifelong resident of Bloomsburg, she graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1936.

Marie was employed by the former Rea & Derrick Drug Store on Main Street for more than 40 years retiring about 1983,

She was a member oif the ladies auxiliary of the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273 and the Ft. McClure Post 804, VFW. She was a member of the former Bloomsburg Elks Elkettes for many years.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Hoyt, Jr. on April 8, 1990; by her step-mother, Ella (Christopher) Long; a brother, Glen Long and a sister Ona Long.

Surviving are a sister, Eleanor, wife of Harvey Beck, Jr. and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Long Meek, both of Bloomsburg, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend graveside services on Wednesday at 2 p. m. in Creveling Cemetery, Almedia. The Rev. Jay E. Jones, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate.

There will ne no calling hours. Memorials may be sent to the Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave., Bloomsburg.
