Marie H. Snyder

Marie H. Evans, age 91, formerly of 187 Spring Garden Ave., Bloomsburg (Fernville), died at 7:20 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where she had been a resident since August 2008.

Born in Bloomsburg on July 13, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Carl L. and Myrtle (Thomas) Hock. She had resided in Fernville since 1940.

Marie was a 1934 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

She was a long-time member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she was the first woman member of the church council. She was also active in the Lutheran Church Women and the Sarah Circle.

Other memberships include the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary and Bloomsburg Elkettes.

Marie was a Girl Scout Leader for 50 years and a former Golden Eaglette Scout.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harry W. Snyder, on June 22, 2001 and two sisters: June M. Holloway on May 29, 1980 and Beryl Abbott on September 5, 2008.

Surviving Marie are a daughter: Lonella M., wife of Franklin Levan, Marion, New York; two sons: Harold D. Snyder and wife Barbara, Newark, New York and Timothy C. Snyder, Rochester, New York; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and a twin sister: Meriam Leiby, Bloomsburg.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, the Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating. Private interment will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. There will be no viewing.
